Soul Menace has long been recognized as an institution in Jakarta’s urban club scene. Stemming from their hip-hop roots in 1998, this collective of well-established individuals have been at the forefront of both club-based and street events, and have since solidified the presence of an unstoppable urban movement.

As the essence of Soul Menace is not limited to hip-hop, their events incorporate other genres ranging from soulful house to Baltimore Funk. Thus, recently, Soul Menace has promoted a slew of events that feature playlists of mash-ups and mixed-genre anthems, most notably their Mashed Potato event that was re-introduced in March 2010 due to popular demand. As a night that showcased a mixed bag of house grooves and soulful head-nodders, “Mashpot” introduced local club goers to an atmosphere and sound that had never been experienced before. Despite its success and overwhelming popularity however, Mashpot holds little precedence when compared with the notoriety of Soul Menace’s monthly hip-hop event, Rewind. Starting in 2001, Rewind has established itself as the go-to event for hip-hop and R&B fans. As Soul Menace’s claim to fame, Rewind has earned multiple awards and is their biggest event.

Undoubtedly, the success of these events can be attributed to an impressive lineup of artists showcasing a smorgasbord of talents and achievements. Each a specialist in their own right, these Singers, DJs and MCs make up the collective substance of Soul Menace.

As a result this group has long advocated the presence of urban culture, not only from the likes of Soul & hip-hop music but also with movements in break-dancing, graffiti, urban music festivals, and street entertainment. Soul Menace has been responsible for organizing and promoting an increasing number of internationally recognized DJ’s in Jakarta, including the likes of DJs Cash Money (USA), Jazzy Jeff (USA), and Irwan Kartosen (NDL). They have also been involved with events featuring heavy heaters like Grandmaster Flash, Ja Rule, Craig David, The Prodigy, The Roots, Alicia keys and Beyonce. Thus, over the years, Soul Menace has developed a vigor, and alongside it, a reputation, for upping the ante of Jakarta’s urban scene. And while hip-hop music does represent a staple element of this group, it ceases to remain its only focus, as can be seen in the groups constant innovations and rule-breaking in music

2011 started the year with Soul Menace extending even further into the music/entertainment industry by exclusively partnering with Heavy Rotation Booking Agency based in NYC. This partnership ensures the quality of renowned international artists Soul Menace has exclusive access & rights to. Guaranteeing a unique experience of premier entertainers.

Not only limiting itself to club promoting and events, Soul Menace is branching out into a structured artist agency/management. With the recent signings of Dira Sugandi and Rebecca Reijman, one of Soul Menace’s foremost present responsibilities is to focus on their artists’ wants and needs, with a conscientious insight of their artists and their specific markets. Soul Menace brings an extensive multi-disciplinary approach to the music industry, helping artists move across the full spectrum of opportunities in touring, motion pictures, televisions, licensing, commercials, soundtracks, publishing and more.
